Bike Description

Distinctive aspects of the Viking Milano bike:

  • I was halfway through swapping the tyres around for winter tyres.  I had only done the back tyre and fitted a Schwalbe Marathon Reflex Bike Tyre which has a reflective strip around the sides of the tyre.  The front tyre was still the original fitted "slick" tyre.
  • Rear Brake did not have brake pads fitted and was not installed correctly because I needed to replace it.
  • Rear Red Lights on each seat stay - although one was not currently fitted due to needing a fresh set of batteries.  Mounted vertically.
  • Cat Eye rear light on the seat post
  • Cree front light attached to the Handlebar
  • Battery Pack for Cree light attached to the top tube.

Theft Description

Shed was broken into.

Bikes were attached to each other through seatpost and wheel via D-Locks.  D-locks used to secure were a Kryptonite Bike Lock & Flex Cable and an Abus lock with a longer Flex cable.

The Kryptonite lock was through the hole in the frame and the long cable was routed from the seat of the Raleigh Shopper bike through the metal shelving unit and then through wheels and frame.  My Milano roadbike was secured to the Raleigh Shopper with the Abus locked through the Kryptonite lock and the Kryptonite flex was routed from the Abus lock through the front and rear wheels and back to the Abus lock.

Since there were no bits of Flex or locks left, I believe they have cut the flex which attached the bikes to the shelving unit and carried out both bikes attached to each other.  I naively thought that would be dissuade a bike thief from wanting to steal the bikes but it appears I was very wrong!   I can only believe they were stealing an expensive bike and it would be worth the effort.
