Bike Description

  • This  is a noticeably huge bike.   XXL Marin Bobcat Trail 29er hardtail, 2017 model, satin blue with bright orange highlights (fork, stem, logo).
  • My bike's Brooks seat is black/dark grey, whereas the standard seat is black & orange.  Don't know if the thieves have kept my Brooks seat on the bike, but they probably won't have been able to find a black & orange Bobcat seat.  So a Bobcat without a Bobcat seat.  ^_^
Aftermarket custom parts:
  • Shiny silver bar-ends.
  • Brooks Cambium saddle, black (dark-grey).
  • Silver Shimano SPD pedals (one side clips, other side is flat).
  • Plastic Topeak rear mudguard fitted just below seat clamp (not on seatpost, as is usually done).
  • Security skewers in both wheels, rather than the normal quick-release.
  • At the time it had three white lights on the bars, two red lights on the seatpost, and a red light on the right seatstay.
  Standard outfit:
  • Gears 3x9, Shimano Shadow rear mech, hydraulic disc brakes.
  • Schwalbe "Tough Tom" knobbly tyres front and rear.
  • SR Suntour fork, orange.

Theft Description

The bike was locked to the banister rail, with a Masterlock combination lock (chain covered in blue nylon-canvas, four-digit combination). The lock is missing, but was probably cut, as we found blue fibres on the ground. The Ortlieb frame-bag was subsequently found on the Ferry Road bike path at the Boswall Place exit, here:   https://www.google.com/maps/place/55%C2%B058'17.4%22N+3%C2%B013'25.9%22W/@55.9714875,-3.2249605,18z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m14!1m7!3m6!1s0x4887c7fc6fd0ff6f:0x8582efad337bd774!2sHawthornvale,+Edinburgh+EH6+4JW!3b1!8m2!3d55.9789029!4d-3.190563!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d55.971486!4d-3.22386   Update - the combination chainlock (cut, with a link missing) was found along the same bike path, a bit closer to home, tossed over a fence, here:   https://www.google.com/maps/place/55%C2%B058'35.4%22N+3%C2%B011'47.0%22W/@55.9765085,-3.1982151,513m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d55.9765059!4d-3.1963823
