Bike Description
Brand new Charge Plug white single speed bike with brown bull horn handlebars, frame size Small. Stolen from Newmarket Station where it was locked up to the map sign on the road into the car park.
BIKE NOW RECOVERED
Thankfully there are some honest people in the world.
I put some searches on ebay, gumtree, vivastreet, preloved and friday-ads.
I printed some flyers and stuck them up at the station where the bike was taken from.
We also put some notices on Facebook.
It was the combination of these that led to the bike being returned.
The thief sold the bike in Newmarket to a guy who was looking to buy a new bike. The buyer took the bike home and his sister said it looked like the same bike that her son's friend had had stolen. He then saw the flyer at the station and got my number and phoned me, arranged to meet and brought it back.
2 lessons learned here:
Combination locks are no good if you're leaving the bike for any time. This had a very heavy chain lock but with a 4-digit combination. When I got the bike back the lock was intact so the thief must have methodically worked through all possible combinations.
The 2nd lesson is that Newmarket station is no place to leave a bike, that's the 2nd time this year we've had a bike stolen from there. The first time it happened we got it back as the thief advertised it on Gumtree.
