Bike Description

Whyte Suffolk 2017 54cm Black and Orange Aluminium Frame with Shimano 105 components. FSA Gosimer Pro Chainset. Hydraulic Disc Brakes with Shimano ST505 Levers. As seen here: https://www.edinburghbicycle.com/whyte-suffolk-2017.html

Theft Description

At 3pm I locked the bike with an Abus Silver Standard D Lock to a parking signpost outside Carshalton College, Sutton. The thief/thieves removed the sign from the top of the post and lifted the bike off the post. I returned at 5.15pm to find the bike gone.

Recovery Description

Having reported the bike stolen to the police, I got the frame number from Edinburgh Cycles, from whom I purchased the bike. After that I kept checking findthatbike etc but no luck. Then I got lucky. The guy who (possibly) stole it was riding it whilst drunk and was involved in a collision with a car. The police were called and he claimed it was his boss's bike, and that he was borrowing it. It was a nice bike and the police officer (big shout out to PC Galloway at Reigate Police station!) twigged that it nobody would lend a nice bike like that to someone like him. So they checked the frame number and found the bike was stolen. A few weeks later I got it back. TIP: Don't look a bike to a parking sign where the sign can simply be unscrewed and the bike lifted up and off the post. Good luck everyone!
