Theft Description

Taken from the bike rack outside Hinchley Wood railway station between approx 2-3pm. Helmet was left behind.

Recovery Description

It was pure luck! Almost two weeks after the theft, my husband was driving along a local road a mile or so from our home and spotted a teenager of about 16 on a bike that looked just like my son's stolen bike (my son is a small 10 year old so it looked odd). He pulled over a bit further down the road, got out of the car and calmly approached the lad without making eye contact until he got close enough, then asked if he could take a look at the bike explaining that it was similar to his son's that had gone missing. Luckily, the lad obliged (saying the bike belonged to his younger brother who had only just got it) and even luckier my husband had all the paperwork related to the bike as he had just been to a couple of second hand bike shops. He showed that the frame numbers matched, proving that the bike indeed belonged to our son. The teenager got agitated when told my husband was going to call the police and said his 14 year old brother must have stolen it! As the bike was now in our possession and my husband didn't fancy restraining the lad, he let him go.
